Tina Arena : Just Me
Soundbuzz Review
After four years, Ms Tina Arena returns,
and has delivered a slick new album Just Me.
Recorded in London, Dublin New York, Los Angeles and
Paris, Just Me is a rather personal album, with Tina
commenting "I set out to make a record that reflected
all the personal, sonic, and lyrical growth, that I
believe I have undergone in recent years. The only master
plan, the only objective I set for myself, was to experiment
and write the freshest sounding record I could
one that was truly an indication of where I am at in
my life right now."
While its first single, 'Soul Mate #9',
is an up-tempo slice of disco funk, one of the album's
most inspiring songs is 'You Made Me Find Myself', a
thank you to her former husband and manager.
'I Dare You To Be Happy' showcases Tina's
soulful vocals to a groovy backbeat.
'God Only Knows' is a beautifully crafted
track with soft strumming guitar while 'If You Ever
Change Your Mind' is an uplifting disco pop feel good,
reach for the stars number.
'Woman' echo's similar sounds and themes
to Madonna's 'What It Feels Like For A Girl'.
What comes across on Just Me is a more
mature approach to her songwriting, all set to a mosaic
of new sounds. As Tina says I don't see this album
as a continuation of my previous work, I think it is
definitely a new beginning almost a rebirth.
That's part of the reason it took a long time to make,
I wanted to be sure about what I wanted to say and how
I wanted to say it." And it certainly comes across,
a must have for all.
